accutane

While you’re taking Roaccutane, you’ll need to avoid any treatments that might irritate the skin, like waxing or dermabrasion. The risks are so high that women are advised to take extra precautions to prevent pregnancy while having Roaccutane. The NHS recommends using two methods of contraception, and taking pregnancy tests before, during, and after treatment.

Treatment is usually stepwise, starting with lower strength topical preparations applied to the skin, moving on to combination topical preparations. Topical treatments should be continued if starting antibiotics as they continue to work alongside the antibiotic. Do not use other acne products that contain benzoyl peroxide at the same time as Isotrexin because it could make the medicine less effective. If you need to apply a product that contains benzoyl peroxide, use it at another time of the day.

If used for longer there is an increased risk of antibiotic resistance. See links to these leaflets on the medical information section. It is not possible to order more than one item per consultation.

If you do not understand the medical information please do NOT order. Consult your GP before stopping prescribed medications. You will need to complete a short medical questionnaire before ordering. Severe acne with pustules, nodules, and scarring needs to be assessed with a doctor face-to-face and possible specialist referral.

In addition to those mentioned, there is a wide range of other treatments that some have suggested might work. These can range from homemade facial masks to getting more exercise. Some of these treatments have no basis in science, whereas others can be reasonably effective. It is important that you talk to a doctor first before trying a new acne treatment.

If acne has completely gone or is very much improved after 3 to 6 months, treatment should be stopped. Treatment may need to be restarted if the acne comes back. Sometimes maintenance long-term treatment may be needed, possibly with lower or less frequent amounts being required. Sometimes different topical preparations contain the same active ingredients.

This mixes with dead skin and plugs the hair follicles. If a plugged follicle becomes infected by bacteria on the skin, it can develop into a painful spot like a pustule or a cyst. The usual starting dose is 0.5 mg per kg of body weight per day (0.5 mg/kg/day).

Retinoids are a group of drugs that are made from vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for healthy skin because it encourages the production of elastin and collagen, and retinoids encourage the production of new skin cells. It is often thought that greasy foods and chocolate can trigger acne, but this is not the case. Some studies have shown that eating foods high in carbohydrates is a potential trigger for acne. Foods that are high in carbohydrates include pasta, bread, beans, soft drinks, and pastries.
